English actress Maxine Peake dropped by to record a VO during filming in Plymouth for a forthcoming Channel 4 documentary.
‘Northern Spirit’ delves into the extraordinary world of northern clairvoyants, psychics and mediums.
Whether it’s ghosts, energies or auras, millions of Britons are firm believers of the ‘other side.’ This observational documentary follows clairvoyants who are busy responding to the increasing demand for spiritual guidance in the North of England.
Tapping into established psychic practices, professional rivalries, and faithful clients, we will get an authentic insight into this intriguing, ethereal world often shrouded in secrecy. We will meet the clairvoyants, faithful clients and cynics alike.
Of the commission Dom Bird says, “Northern Spirit promises to bring a warm and unique insight into the mysterious world of clairvoyants. With a 360 degree view of this world through the eyes of both the psychics and their loyal clients Northern Spirit will celebrate the characters behind this extraordinary community. From our businesses to our love lives, these modern mediums advise on every facet of life. It’s a fascinating world that raises many profound questions about our innate desire for spiritual guidance.”
The programme will air on Channel 4 late 2015.
Maxine made her name as Twinkle in Victoria Wood’s sitcom dinnerladies. She has since played Veronica in Channel 4’s Manchester-based drama series Shameless, barrister Martha Costello QC in BBC legal drama Silk and Grace Middleton in The Village. She is also an accomplished stage actress, and co-starred in the 2014 film The Theory of Everything.
